Yesterday, I started a Memrise deck of Chinese radicals. Going really smoothly. Of course, partly that is because I started with the easy ones of 1 or 2 strokes. I am practicing calligraphy using magic water paper, which is just cool!
These are some of the hanja characters I have learned. I can draw all of them, although my calligraphy skills are marginal. I keep practicing.
I saw a Sumi-e class being offered at a Zen temple a few hours drive from my house. I am tempted to sign up. It could only help to learn the basics of chinese brush painting and calligraphy from a chinese man who is expert in it.
I was thinking it would help learning Hanja if I saw Chinese radicals more ... so here is my wallpaper.
Still doing the "one a week" Hanja lesson for my friend Cimi. This week it is 日 sun, day 일
It is daunting to think about learning all the chinese characters, but learning the 215 chinese radicals over the course of a year seems possible.
I like how when you learn 木, then you see 森, 林 you can guess it means forest, woods.
My friend Cimi is going to China next year. I don't know Chinese, but I do know a little Hanja, so we are studying Hanja together. (Not sure it will help her at all on her trip. But it is fun to learn!) This week, we are doing the word for tree. 나무
A single line. Maybe it is because I have never learned to draw/paint, but I find it so scary. My friend Cimi who I am learning a few hanja characters with is cheering me on.
