Jakarta is listed as a global city in the 2008 Globalization and World Cities Study Group and Network (GaWC) research.[8] Based on survey by Brooking Institute, in 2011 growth of economic of Jakarta ranked 17th among the world's 200 largest cities, a jump from its 2007 ranking of 171. Jakarta has grown more rapidly than Kuala Lumpur, Beijing and Bangkok.[9]
In 2014 A.T. Kearney as Global consultant released the Global Cities Index, which also includes the Emerging Cities Outlook 2014 which mentioned Jakarta as rank first among 35 cities.[10]
The National Monument (Indonesian: Monumen Nasional, abbreviated Monas) is a 132 m (433ft) tower in the centre of Merdeka Square, Central Jakarta, symbolizing the fight for Indonesia. It is the national monument of the Republic of Indonesia, built to commemorate the struggle for Indonesian independence.
Construction began in 1961 under the direction of President Sukarno. Monas was opened to the public in 1975. It is topped by a flame covered with gold foil. The monument and the museum are open daily from 08.00 - 15.00 Western Indonesia Time (UTC+7) throughout the week except for the last Monday of each month when the monument is closed.
Kota (Indonesian: Kota Tua Jakarta), is a small area in Jakarta, Indonesia. It is also known as Old Jakarta, and Old Batavia (Dutch: Oud Batavia). It spans 1.3 square kilometres of North Jakarta and West Jakarta (Kelurahan Pinangsia, Taman Sari and Kelurahan Roa Malaka, Tambora). Kota is Indonesian word for "city", it was the reminiscent of the vicinity during colonial times in the 16th century that the city was only within Batavia walled compound (today Kota), while the surrounding areas was only kampung (villages), orchards, and ricefields. The largely Chinese downtown area of Glodok is a central part of Kota.
Ancol is an administrative village (kelurahan) in Pademangan District, North Jakarta, Indonesia. It is located in the coastal lowland of Jakarta. Ancol is bounded by Jakarta Bay to the north, Sunda Kelapa harbor to the west, and Kali Japat canal to the east. Ancol has the area code of 14430.
Ancol contains the main beach resort of Jakarta. Taman Impian Jaya Ancol, the largest integrated tourism area in South East Asia, is located in Ancol.
Central Park in Jakarta, Indonesia is a mixed-use complex including a shopping mall, an office tower, 3 apartments, and a hotel covering an area of about 655,000 m2 (7,050,000 sq ft) located in the district of Grogol Petamburan, West Jakarta created by the Agung Podomoro Group. The Complex is the 10th largest building in the world in terms of floor space.[citation needed]
It is named after the original Central Park in New York City. Central Park Jakarta is situated in between Mall Taman Anggrek and Mall Ciputra. It also features a musical fountain at the park area with daily shows.
