This is the map I am translating all the places to Korean (and Hanja)
Figure it is a good way to practice sentence making

I am thinking about my study routine. Even though my intention was to spend February establishing a routine, I have to say that what happened was #Add1Challenge just disrupted my routine.
I've been thinking how there are a spectrum of activities, and I just work the two ends ... really, really hard 1-on-1 speaking and heavy, intense study, or nothing. I have lost the in-between stuff like writing Korean sentences on Mindpasta, doing flashcards, listening to Korean music, fun Korean videos, and so forth.
Hmm. This isn't working. Scratch this, try again.

I am running on fumes. It is 1:40 AM. I have a meeting at 7 am with someone from KDA class to study. I haven't eaten. I spent 2 hours trying to help one language exchange partner who got the fool idea in his head to sing a Korean song in English, and is asking me to help. It is so incredibly hard to find English words that will fit the beat and meaning of the song. It is like composing my own song lyrics.
I get so exhausted from conversations. This week I had 5 days with conversations. When will I find time to study if I am completely exhausted after each conversation?
I am such an introvert. Conversations drain me. Conversations in Korean, twice as draining.

I always end up unable to sleep tied up in knots the night before KDA class. Then I am dragging through class because I am too exhausted to sleep. Argh! Have to finish my studies with KDA earlier (it never feels "done"). I have to get good night's sleep, so I can do better in class.
Yawning in class is disrespectful. Hate that I couldn't stop yawning today.

Pretty much all my attempts to video tape myself speaking Korean end with "bleck" or "oh cr*p"

Jay 재 Sounds like me on my first runs when recording songs... Lost of 'blergh' and... uhh... words I shouldn't say

Ever since the #ADD1Challenge #A1C5 started, I have been stressed out. I did not know how deep the waters would be. I threw myself off the deep end, and I do not know how to swim!
Today, I realized they expect that right from week 1, I will have 3 conversations a week all in Korean.
Well, heck, if I knew how to do that, why would I have come to you? All Korean is stuck in my head. It takes me 10 minutes to form sentences. I can't understand a word said to me in Korean.
Oh what ever am I going to do?

I am watching Mr. Baek but still making flashcards. It is interesting quiz for me. Can I recognize the sounds? Can I then remember the spelling? I was reading in book "How Language Works" that there is not a strong link between reading and spelling. Just because you can read, doesn't mean you can spell. Plus, there are people who can spell well but not read well. Interesting.
Me? Crap speller. Dyslexia is partly to blame.
I simply don't "get" how people store spellings in their brains. The best I can do is store the sound and guess each time I type what the spelling might be.

word wheel in English. Can you understand my game? Cut three wheels and put a clip in the center. spin letters to form a word (syllable). then see if any other words are formed. Debating about wild cards. Certainly the last wheel can be a letter or just blank for no batchim.

Came up with an idea for a game. Have three wheels that spin.
    Inner wheel: Consonants: ㄱ ㄲ ㄴ ㄷ ㄸ ㄹ ㅁ ㅂ ㅃ ㅅ ㅆ ㅇ ㅈ ㅉ ㅊ ㅋ ㅌ ㅍ ㅎ
    Middle wheel: Vowels: ㅏ ㅐ ㅑ ㅒ ㅓ ㅔ ㅕ ㅖ ㅗ ㅘ ㅙ ㅚ ㅛ ㅜ ㅝ ㅞ ㅟ ㅠ ㅡ ㅢ ㅣ
    Outer wheel: (받침) is,
    (none) ㄱ ㄲ ㄳ ㄴ ㄵ ㄶ ㄷ ㄹ ㄺ ㄻ ㄼ ㄽ ㄾ ㄿ ㅀ ㅁ ㅂ ㅄ ㅅ ㅆ ㅇ ㅈ ㅊ ㅋ ㅌ ㅍ ㅎ
You line up the letter to form one word, then look at the other letters to see if they form words.
    Vocabulary building game.

Julia This is another of my "not learning, just having fun" ideas. I should be studying. I need to study. But I want to build the game and play with it. I can envision an electronic version of the game too. Line up the letters, then it pops up what the valid words are with their definitions and link to Naver dictionary entries.

One aspect I am trying is using StayFocsd to keep me from using "social/entertainment" type sites like hulu, cnn. facebook except from 5 - 10 PM. Suddenly having 90 new active facebook users that I see posts from means I could spend endless hours just reading their posts and not actually studying.
I am weak. I need StayFocsd to remind me of my goals.

This is day 1 of the ADD1Challenge. Monday. January 12, 2015.
I commit to study 5 days a week, 30 minutes a day. 3 of those days need to be speaking.
Goal: at the end of 90 days, I will have a 15 minute conversation with a native Korean.
There are 90 people participating in this challenge with me.

Here is what my day was like. Stayed up way to late doing something (forget what!) then dragged out of bed after 40 minutes of alarm going off to have tutor session (no breakfast, no shower, in jammies) only to discover that the house is only 50 degrees! Don't have time to check out the furnace, so turn on the wood stove, pile on 2 coats and a blanket, then do my hour tutor session.
I was practically useless the first 5 minutes. My eyes couldn't focus and I was chattering teeth. My brain wasn't focused either! I finally got into the swing and did the reading, but struggled. I hadn't found the time to do the reading ALL WEEK LONG and boy did it show!
So this week, I will be better. I will read every day. I will redeem myself!

I did not realize those temps were the same number until today.

Julia We Americans still use F. In our defense, weather men prefer F because it is a finer scale (more accurate measurement).
