May I not study, and instead hang out with my Mindpasta friends?

Not in the mood to study, but class is tomorrow. This week is "Asking and Giving Permission" KDA Class 22.
You have to study hard. 공부 열심히 해야 돼요 (해요).
If you want to go to the bathroom, you have to ask permission.
화장실에 가고 싶으면 먼저 허락 받아야 돼요.
How do I have to ask? 어떻게 해 야 돼요?
May I sit here? 여기에 앉아도 돼요?
    No, you can’t. 안 돼요.
Would it be alright if I left early? 오늘만 집에 빨리 가면 안 돼요? (됄까요?)

Some times I wonder how much I have learned. Seems like such a tiny amount. I can make basic sentences. I know about 300 words. Hardly enough to have conversation with a 5 year old.
I wanted with revisiting old lessons to discover that I had learned so much and they were now easy.
Pfft. Nothing comes easy to me with Korean.
At least by revisiting the old lessons today, I was studying. For 3 weeks now, since quitting the ADD1Challenge, I have been feeling exhausted and unmotivated. Writing the blog post last night about why I am interested in Korean helped. So too did revisiting things I have wanted to learn. Reminded me that even if it is hard, I do want to keep studying Korean.

Revisiting some of the things I have tried to learn Korean from. Things I made lessons in LingQ. For example, Glossika Mass Sentences, KPop to KTalk, Korean Folk Tales, Korean Digital Academy readings, Frozen song lyrics, Wake Up children song, etc,
I am surprised at how really beyond my ability these materials still are. It is like I only knew how to add, but was trying to do advanced Calculus.
If the first song I was trying to learn a year ago is still too hard for me to learn a year later, then maybe trying to learn that song was too advanced for me a year ago. You think? Haha
If I had to do it all over again, I would have just studied Korean Digital Academy stuff and saved myself all the head banging.

I was chatting with a KDA classmate who was feeling like she had not studied enough. She is in Korea, and feeling the societal pressure for studying non stop. So it got me thinking. How many hours a week of language study counts as studying hard?
However many hours that might be, I can admit I haven't been studying hard lately. The Add1Challenge stressed and burnt me out. Now, I just feel like I want to rest. Just studying the minimum to keep up with my KDA class. Hope when warm weather and spring arrives, my enthusiasm returns for studying.
I think what is missing is play. I stopped playing when I got all stressed out in the Add1Challenge. I haven't played with the Korean language doing things just for fun in so long.

Whoops ... people who live in glass houses should not throw stones.

Julia (clause) + 는 before a noun makes it a "desc-riptive/adjective clause" If I could explain more, then I might understand it. In English, these are who-clauses or that-clauses. The man who wears a hat. The woman that has red hair.

Julia I think it is the rearranging from English to Korean that really curdles my brain. "people who live in glass houses" ok. "glass house in people" makes my brain go haywire.

I am trying to work through Korean grammar. I still have trouble writing it up in my notes, so I know I am not clear about all of this. I remember when I was learning Hangul, I was incredibly slow at first. I thought I would never get to read at normal speed. Now, I don't even give it a second thought. It is easy to read Hangul. I hope grammar will get to be like that too, someday.

I like having the notes for KDA class, but I hate writing about the grammar structures. If I can't write about it, then I don't really understand it.
Sentences still hard. Grammar hard to implement. Work in progress ...
There are people who spend 3 months on a language and learn enough to have casual conversations. I am coming up on a year, and I can barely speak 1 sentence, after heavy brain strain. But I can make sentences now. I am getting there. I just far prefer writing and plenty of time and access to a dictionary to trying to type in chats or speak.

I haven't been doing my 1000 Most Frequent Korean words Memrise deck lately. Fallen way behind. Tried to catch up the past 2 days. Reviewed hundreds of words. I know about 250 words from the Frequency list, which is 25%!
I also have KDA lists and Glossika lists. Of course, plenty of overlap. Some day, I want to make my own uberlist. Then I would only need to work one Memrise deck.

Trying to write some sentences. Hard! Ryan, do these look ok?
    Tiger hammered the nail in.
    Tiger가 망치로 못을 박았다.
    Pooh is in the tub.
    Pooh가 욕조 안에 있다.
The pillow is on the bed.
    침대위에 베개가 있어요.
The umbrella is big and red.
    그 우산은 크고 빨간색이에요.
Rain comes. So Kanga is using an umbrella.
비 와요. 그래서 Kanga가 우산을 쓰고 있다.
Would you like another bowl of soup?
    국 한 그릇 더 드실래요?
Pooh lathered his face with soap.
    Pooh은 얼굴에 비누칠을 했다.

True confession: I spent hours working on the menu structure of my blog and adding links to my about page instead of studying.
Bad Julia. Mentally slapping myself. Class in 8 hours, and I am not fully prepared. Slacker!
