    四是四，十是十，十四是十四，四十是四十；
    谁把十四说“十适”，就打他十四；
    谁把四十说“适十”，就打他四十 (Chinese)
    Four is four, ten is ten, fourteen is fourteen, forty is forty.
    If anyone pronounces “shísì” as “shíshì”, hit them fourteen times.
    If anyone pronounces “sìshí” as “shìshí”, hit them forty times.
    sì shì sì, shí shì shí, shísì shì shísì, sìshí shì sìshí; shéi bǎ shísì shuō “shíshì”, jiù dǎ tā shísì, shéi bǎ sìshí shuō “shìshí”, jiù dǎ tā sìshí.

    today, I went to Chinese buffet with my smart phone (for flashcard app) and a notebook. While indulging my hunger, I poured some Korean into my brain.
    It attracted the attention of the waitress, who noticed I was writing Korean and Chinese. She speaks Chinese. It was kind of cool. I think she looked at me with more respect knowing I was trying to study her language. She corrected my Chinese for peach 桃子, which I had miscopied from my fortune cookie.

    시리나 My cousin is a Chinese translator and I have a lot of respect for him because I personally think that it's a very hard language! I have difficulty with languages where you need to memorise characters by rote (like Chinese) instead of learning a phonetic alphabet (like Korean). So, I only know a handful of Chinese characters There are also many sounds in Chinese that don't exist in other languages, especially English, so that makes things even harder!

    I am use to Korean's Subject ob-ject Verb word order. Then an app ChineseSkill taught me Subject Verb ob-ject order for Chinese. Is that really true? It had me completely surprised.

    I debated purchasing this book a long time. Full price, it is $30 USD. However, as my interest in Hanja/Chinese characters is still going strong, I ended up going back to the bookstore to purchase.
    The book contains the first 800 characters of Chinese for the HSK Level A proficiency test. It includes the characters, the stroke order, pictures or stories to help remember the characters, and the pronunciation in Chinese. At a dense 360 pages, it is a learner's dictionary ordered by frequency of use.
    800 characters is enough to recognize 75% of the average Chinese text.

    연주 @Julia I actually have known a number of hanja already and I am drawn into learning Mandarin because of Hanja. You can learn by pinyin (using sound system instead of character) but it's no fun kkkk
